The Department of Political Science at Gettysburg College invites applications for a one-year Visiting Assistant Professor position beginning August 2025. As proclaimed in our mission and institutional values, Gettysburg College strongly supports diversity and particularly invites applicants from members of any group than has been historically underrepresented in the American academy. The department seeks candidates in the subfield of political theory, broadly conceived. The successful candidate will teach the department's introductory political theory course and upper-level courses in political theory in his/her/their specialty. Candidates with the ability to also contribute to comparative politics or American politics course offerings are preferred, though not required. The teaching load for this position is the equivalent of six courses over the academic year. Visiting faculty are eligible to apply for travel, teaching, and research funds while on the faculty at Gettysburg College.

Gettysburg College is a highly selective liberal arts college located within 90 minutes of the Baltimore/Washington metropolitan area. Established in 1832, the College has a rich history and is situated on a 220-acre campus with an enrollment of over 2,300 students.

Qualifications

Candidates should have a Ph.D. (or be ABD) in Political Science with a subfield specialization in political theory. Teaching experience or promise of excellence in teaching is desirable.
