Job Description

For more than 70 years, Counseling and Psychological Services (CaPS) at Carnegie Mellon University has provided an array of mental health services to the university community. The center is increasingly focused on integrating global social justice perspectives into the work we do, which includes instituting programs and services that are culturally responsive to historically underrepresented populations. Over the past 5 years, the counseling center has significantly expanded the services and training opportunities it offers, including a mobile crisis team, psychological assessment and gender affirming care clinics, innovative outreach programming, an APA accredited internship program, and extensive group psychotherapy offerings.

Carnegie Mellon University invites applications for a full-time Staff Therapist position with Counseling and Psychological Services (CAPS). We are seeking individuals who are passionate about providing psychotherapy and collaborating with a multidisciplinary team of mental health counselors, licensed social workers, psychiatrists, psychologists, trainees, and administrative professionals to provide high-quality mental health care to the university community.

  • A combination of education and relevant experience from which comparable knowledge is demonstrated may be considered.
  • Demonstrated experience working with individuals with marginalized identities and providing culturally sensitive diagnostic assessment, crisis intervention and risk assessment, and brief psychotherapy.
  • Experience designing and facilitating culturally sensitive presentations for educational or outreach events.
  • Seasoned communication and interpersonal skills, including the ability to manage conflict with cultural humility, clear professional boundaries, and ability to work collegially and collaboratively in an interdisciplinary team process.
  • Demonstrated understanding of the dynamics of privilege and oppression, and the impact these have on equity, access, and opportunity in higher education/the workplace, as well as cultural elements that influence self- and other-awareness and clinical practices.
