Job Description

The Department of International health is seeking a Research Program Coordinator who will assist with providing day-to-day administrative support services for Johns Hopkins, Tanzania Red Cross, and Muhimbili University Education and Mentoring Program On Surgical Work, Research, and Rehabilitation in Tanzania (EMPOWER-TZ). The Program Coordinator will assist with ensuring strong collaboration with international teams by implementing program management processes, which will also allow for tracking progress. The position will support writing program reports and plans for the donor and will also regularly contribute to other non-scientific writing. The Program Coordinator will also work with the Johns Hopkins University - International Injury Research Unit leadership and team members on grant proposals and contribute to other business development activities for the unit.


Specific Duties & Responsibilities

  • Serve as the primary point of contact for the EMPOWER-TZ program, coordinating communication between faculty, students, and external partners.
  • Host project-related meetings (via Zoom or in person), prepare meeting notes, and document key decisions.
  • Work collaboratively with other program staff to ensure efficient planning, organizing, implementation, monitoring, and reporting of program activities.
  • Facilitate the development of an effective support environment for team members to implement their technical and programmatic activities/interventions.
  • Participate in the monitoring and evaluation of program activities in Tanzania as needed.
  • Collaborate with finance staff to prepare and track project and activity budgets.
  • Ensure timely, accurate, and appropriate reporting of program activities and results to the donor.
  • Contribute to proposal management, design, writing, and editing.
  • Promote and support knowledge management and sharing efforts, including uploading and managing documents on the program?s knowledge management platforms.
  • Contribute to the development of new knowledge management and sharing tools and processes.
  • Organize and schedule program-related workshops, training sessions, and events, ensuring logistical arrangements are efficiently managed.
  • Maintain accurate and up-to-date project records.
  • Support the development of educational materials and research reports for the program.
  • Demonstrate and serve as a role model for a positive work environment, displaying high motivation, positive attitude, good judgment, tact, and sensitivity in all interactions with staff, investigators, students, and participants.

  • Comfortable working across different time zones to coordinate international activities.
  • Proficiency in data management tools and project tracking software.
  • Ability to travel internationally as needed to support project activities.






Minimum Qualifications

  • Bachelor's degree in related discipline.
  • Additional related experience may substitute for required education, to the extent permitted by the JHU equivalency formula.




Preferred Qualifications

  • Master?s degree in public health, global health, or related discipline.
  • Experience with NIH grant management and compliance.
  • Experience working with international health programs or projects.
  • One year of experience in a similar role working on international health programs.
  • Strong organizational skills with attention to detail and the ability to manage multiple tasks.
  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills.
  • Proficiency in Microsoft Office (Word, Excel, PowerPoint).
  • Field-oriented, with comfort in a team approach to programming, and the ability to manage several activities simultaneously.
  • Strong presentation skills and strong verbal and written communication skills.
  • Excellent facilitation, team building, and coordination skills.
  • Awareness and sensitivity to working in various socio-economic settings and multicultural groups in a developing country environment.
  • Appreciation for socio-cultural differences, preferably with experience living and working in one or more low-resource settings.
