Summary:
The Registered Nurse is responsible for assisting providers with patient care such as prenatal, gynecologic, and postpartum care. They play a key role in managing patient flow, assisting with clinical procedures and patient education.
Essential Functions:
· Conducts initial patient care assessments including vitals, medical history and determines urgency if needed.
· Assist with in-office procedures.
· Responsible for administering medications and injections.
· Educate patients on topics related to women’s health such as contraception, prenatal and postpartum care and preventive health.
· Collaborates with physicians, medical assistants, and administrative staff to coordinate patient care.
Primary Duties:
· Provide comprehensive assessments, review medical history and perform physical examinations.
· Prepares documentation for medical records including updating patient medical charts by posting examination and test results, diagnosis, medications and treatment.
· Triages phone and email inquiries from patients and identifies emergency and non-emergency situations. Consults with providers as appropriate.
· Assist with tracking and reviewing lab results and notify patients in a timely manner as directed by the medical provider.
· Renew and order prescriptions for patients as instructed by the medical provider.
· Assist providers with in-office procedures such as IUD insertions, endometrial biopsies and ultrasounds.
· Prepare and maintain exam rooms and equipment, ensuring all necessary instruments and supplies are available.
· Educate patients on topics related to women’s health, medication administration, wound care and other post-procedure guidelines.
· Participate in continuous quality improvements, staff training and development to stay up to date on best practices.
Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities:
· Knowledge of women’s health, including labor, delivery, postpartum and family planning.
· Knowledge of medical equipment and instruments used to administer patient care.
· Knowledge of common safety hazards and precautions to establish/maintain a safe work environment.
· Knowledge of health promotion, health risk identification, and patient education principles and techniques.
· Knowledge of community, professional, and educational resources.
· Skill in oral and written communication including interviewing to gather medical histories; providing presentations, consultations, facilitation, and documentation, e.g., writing medical orders, patient education materials, and medical record updates. Skill in using computerized health information management systems.
· Skill in case management, time management, problem solving, crisis intervention, multitasking, and other organizational matters.
· Skill in modifying methods and techniques of professional nursing to provide appropriate nursing care and in initiating appropriate emergency response and investigatory procedures.
· Ability to work independently and make sound clinical decisions.
· Ability to analyze complex data to manage patient care effectively within a fast-paced environment.
Work Environment
· May require occasional travel or overtime.
· Work is performed in a professional healthcare setting.
· Possible exposure to communicable diseases, blood-borne pathogens, and toxic substances in the work environment.
Physical Demands
· Ability to lift and move medical equipment and supplies up to (X) pounds
· Extended periods of standing and walking.
· Manual ability for handling instruments and equipment.
Education
· Education: Associate’s or Bachelor’s degree in Nursing.
· Certifications: Active Registered Nurse license.
· Preferred education: BSN
Experience
· Experience: 1-2 years’ experience of clinical nursing in an OB/GYN setting.
· Preferred experience if needed.
