Job Description:
Duties and Responsibilities:
Provides nursing care and procedures according to physicians' orders and nursing protocol.
Assesses patient's health, administers medications as prescribed, takes vital signs, records medical documentation in student files.
Evaluates possible side effects and the overall effectiveness of medication.
Implement nursing plan of care by administering medication, nursing treatments, and patient education.
Performs BLS (basic life support), CPR (cardiopulmonary resuscitation), and other emergency responses.
Participate in emergency response setting for both students and staff.
Provides supportive, emergency care, and as needed one on one care for the following disease populations: seizure disorder, diabetes Type I & II and insipidus, adrenal insufficiency, shunts, asthmatic, anaphylaxis, gastrostomy tube, ventilator, and others that may not be listed depending on students enrolled at the time.
Performs initial and ongoing assessments according to protocol.
Collects student clinic registration paperwork from parents and physicians including but not limited to health history, emergency care plans, medication orders, physical, and consents.
Performs diagnostic tests on collected specimens to determine patient's health status.
Discusses the student's comprehensive health plan with other staff to identify the student's needs.
Assigns job duties and activities to subordinates.
Counts and tracks drugs (narcotics), instruments, and other accountable items.
Maintains health care equipment, supplies, and inventory including maintaining all AEDs throughout campus.
May supervise Licensed Practical Nurse or other staff up to 6 at a time.
Other duties as assigned.
Other Functions
Attend student registration on assigned days, one of which will be a Sunday.
Organizes and participates in a yearly influenza vaccine clinic for students and staff (TSB & TSDN).
Organizes and assists with yearly eye clinics for students as required by the State of Tennessee.
Performs yearly hearing screens on students.
Provides coverage by attending sporting events that may or may not include traveling during the school year.
Provides coverage for sporting events hosted by TSB over the weekend 24/7 while students are present on campus may include other state special school populations.
Provides coverage by attending off campus field trips during the school year depending on students attending the field trip.
Provides training to school staff on emergency medication and emergency response as required. Turns in documentation to clinic director.
