Job Description

MEDIA AND CULTURAL STUDIES DEPARTMENT PART-TIME LECTURER POSITION

The Department of Media and Cultural Studies (MCS) at the University of California, Riverside (UCR) invites applications for part-time Lecturer positions for the Winter 2025 and Spring 2025 quarters. Winter 2025 quarter begins January 2, 2025 ends March 21, 2025. Spring 2025 quarter begins March 26, 2025 and ends June 13, 2025.

Salary: $7,361 per course (pending final budget approval)

Qualifications:
Candidates should have minimum qualifications of an M.A. degree in a related field, with one year of teaching experience at the college level and a commitment to teaching excellence. Candidates should have scholarly expertise on topics related to the field of media studies, cultural studies, critical race, ethnic studies, decolonization studies, or film studies. A Ph.D. is a preferred qualification, but candidates that have attained ABD status will also be considered. Priority will be given to candidates with a demonstrated commitment to excellence in teaching and relevant teaching experience. The successful candidate will be expected to have a strong commitment to teaching. The candidate should also have an active and demonstrated commitment to diversity.

Course offerings are subject to availability of funding. Applications are welcome from persons qualified to teach:

Winter 2025
* MCS069: The Politics of Public Space
The course examines public space and the politics of its creation and use. We will study new forms of public space including demonstrations and occupations; and changing concepts of public and private space in contemporary society.
Spring 2025
* MCS144K: Decolonizing the Screen
This course examines colonialism and decolonization through film. Students study the physical, ideological and psychological effects of colonialism, neocolonialism, including, but not limited to racism and gendered violence and discuss what it means to decolonize the screen, the gaze, and the possibilities of decolonization through a shared collective imaginary.
