Mechanical Designer

Description Summary: Under the direction of the Engineering Manager, the Mechanical Designer will prepare layouts and designs of simple components or tooling from data and specifications submitted by others using Solidworks 2020 and check basic models and prints for proper use of design techniques.
Essential Duties and Responsibilities include the following. Other duties may be assigned.
• Designs simple components or tooling
• Produces and modifies basic 3D models and detail drawings
• Processes ECNs, with marked up drawings and bills of materials as needed
• Redesigns components for functional improvements or cost reductions
• Reviews parts for production based on inspection reports
• Checks basic models and prints for proper use of modeling techniques and design standards
• Ensures the New Product Development process is being followed at all times
• Performs other duties as assigned

Job Skills Requirements
• Visual acuity and design techniques to produce basic 3D layouts for new designs
• Ability to calculate dimensions as required for accurate and complete layouts
• Proficient in math, including trigonometry
• Familiar with some physical properties of materials and the relative cost of materials
• Basic understanding of standards and applications in an engineering environment
• Familiar with some manufacturing processes and assembly techniques
• Good interpersonal, written and verbal communication skills
• Fluent in English

Education
Associates Degree in Mechanical Design or related field, or equivalent education and experience.

Experience Requirements
Minimum of one year in Mechanical Design or co-op/internship experience
