Job Description

AoPS Academy is a program of Art of Problem Solving (AoPS), a global leader in K–12 advanced education. AoPS is on a mission to discover, inspire, and train the great problem solvers of the next generation. Since 2003, AoPS has trained hundreds of thousands of the country’s top students through its online school, in-person academies, textbooks, and online learning systems. AoPS Academy offers unique problem solving curriculum at its in-person locations across the country as well as through the virtual campus. 

The AoPS Academy in Frisco, TX is hiring part-time Language Arts Teaching Assistants (TAs) with strong reading, writing, and grammar skills to support our campus during the academic year. As a TA you may grade assignments, host regular office hours, and run on-demand 1-1 tutoring sessions. This is an excellent opportunity for individuals who want to work with motivated younger students and contribute to the AoPS Academy community. 

This is a part-time remote position for the 2025-26 Academic Year (August-May); TAs must be able to host virtual office hours. This role also has the potential to continue into our in-person summer programming.

Our academic year TAs contribute greatly to the success of our students and are an integral part of our Academy family. This may be a great fit for you if you enjoy interacting with students, providing feedback on writing assignments and essays, and helping students feel more confident about language arts concepts. 

Academic year TAs work well independently and support students outside of their regular AoPS class time. TAs typically work with students from various classes/levels simultaneously to assist with homework and help students understand material they missed or may need further guidance on. Job Duties:

  • Host weekly office hours and on-demand tutoring sessions for students.
  • Work with students individually or in small groups.
  • Provide exceptional written feedback on graded assignments.
  • Collaborate with instructors and full-time staff.

Qualifications:

  • Must be 16 years old or older
  • Possess strong language arts content knowledge in reading, writing, and grammar with the ability to help students navigate advanced concepts
  • Ability to provide clear, thoughtful, and thorough feedback on students’ writing assignments
  • Ability to work well independently with little supervision
  • Can successfully support small groups of students from various classes/levels simultaneously
  • Experience with/interest in working with younger students strongly preferred
  • Exceptional written and spoken communication
  • Positive and encouraging attitude that helps students feel comfortable asking questions 
  • Detail-oriented and organized
  • Familiarity with the AoPS curriculum is not required, but a plus

Location and Schedule: 

Although this is a virtual position at our Frisco campus location, candidates must be located in Frisco or the greater DFW area and must be able to commute to our campus as needed to pick up teaching materials. 

AoPS Academy is an afterschool program with classes in the evenings and on weekends, so candidates must be available to work during weekday after-school hours and/or on weekends.

Benefits and Compensation: The Teaching Assistant pay rate at our Frisco location is $13/hour.
