Nexus Family Healing is looking to add a Human Resources & Training Manager to join our BRAND NEW location in Portland, Oregon !
Nexus Family Healing, a national non-profit mental health organization serving youth and families for over 50 years, is expanding to Oregon! This small PRTF program is estimated to open March 2024 and will serve up to six youth at a time, ages 10-17 with mental and developmental disabilities who have become involved in the justice system. The program, located at Nexus' Wilkes Cottage, is a secure location, providing high staff to youth ratios as well as 24/7 nursing, recreational and therapeutic professionals, psychiatric services, and an array of other types of therapies as indicated.

- Starting salary: $115,000+

Position Summary: Our Human Resources & Training Manager is responsible for overseeing the agency's human resource and training functions in accordance with Nexus home office policy, federal and state laws and generally accepted HR principles and practices, while overseeing the coordination and facilitation of onsite training and educational programs, that provide new and existing staff with the knowledge of principles and procedures to be successful in their role.
Primary responsibilities:
Human Resources Leadership
- Collaboratively works with agency operations leadership including other HR leaders, Finance and Accounting, Information Technology (IT) to meet the needs of the program and location
- Coaches agency leaders in areas of employee feedback and development; ensures agency leaders are equipped with tools and resources to support the agency in attracting, engaging, developing, and retaining talent
- Encourages employee engagement, commitment, and contribution
- Collaborates with the Executive Director and the assigned home office Director of Human Resources to implement HR best practices that foster synergy, standardization, and continuity; works to reduce redundancies and increase productivity and efficiency
Agency HR Consultation, Continuity & Best Practices
- Spearheads required HR reporting specific to employee turnover, retention, worker's compensation, etc.
- Analyzes and interpolates HR data and determines areas of opportunity/improvement within the program, while creating plans for improved HR operational success
- Maintains strong working knowledge and expertise of employment law practices and principles relating to EEO, FLSA, COBRA, FMLA, ADA, HIPAA Privacy, OSHA, diversity, and sexual harassment
- Serves as the Agency and program's subject matter expert (SME) for all state specific worker's compensation, leave of absence, minimum wage, overtime and general employment/labor laws applicable to the agency
- Collaborates with Nexus Home Office Human Resources Directors and HR team members
- Ensures regulatory standards including employee personnel records, employee trainings, employment posters, interviewing and onboarding
- Supports and advises agency leaders in areas of employee performance, performance improvement, policy violation, corrective action, attendance, compensation, and other personnel related opportunities
Performance Management, Employee Engagement & Employee Relations
- Proactively works with the Executive Director and Nexus Home Office, Director of Human Resources to resolve employee relations issues including employee investigations, escalations, policy violations, red flag reporting and employee misconduct
- Maintains an open-door policy with employees
- Coordinates the employee 90 day and annual performance evaluation process
- Maintains thorough understanding of program roles and responsibilities
Compensation & Benefits
- Ensures Nexus' compensation program is applied equitably across the agency
- Collaborates with home office HR leaders to determine necessary pay adjustments
- Oversees the consistent and compliant administration of employee benefits
- Responds to employee benefit questions and directs detailed questions to benefit provider
Training and Compliance
- Coordinates and schedules New Employee Orientation (NEO) for program new hires; ensures new hires receive sufficient training before embarking on their new position and facilitates NEO as needed
- Collaborates and partners with the Executive Director and clinical team leaders and evaluates the overarching and strategic training and development needs of the agency; maintains a pulse and awareness on the pressing issues and needs of the agency to be addressed through ongoing training.
- Schedules various training sessions and programs as needed for the agency ensuring training materials are current, accurate and consistent with the department's expectations
- Maintains all training records and communicates with supervisors when specific training requirements have to meet established organization, licensing and compliance standards
- Complies with and ensures all licensing and accreditation standards regarding training and development are regularly maintained and executed to meet the requirements of all accreditation bodies' standards, guidelines, and licensing requirements
- Informs and educates agency leaders and employees on the importance of trauma informed principles; provides employees and leaders with applicable, trauma sensitive language and examples that support the culture, communication, mission, and values set forth by Nexus
- Coordinates and assists with activities and reports during audit and accreditation reviews as necessary
- Ensures confidentiality and follows HIPAA compliance regarding employees and clients in all areas
- Develops a full understanding of, and remains in compliance with, training and staff development standards relating to accrediting bodies and Agency licensing requirements
- Remains current and compliant on all company policies, assigned training and/or certification requirements
Agency Recruiting, Staffing and Affirmative Action
- Partners with Nexus Home Office Talent Acquisition team to post and backfill vacant positions
- Ensures compliant interviewing and recruiting processes consistent with EEO guidelines
- Helps facilitate interviews with candidates as needed and ensures a positive candidate experience for interviewees
- Collaborates with agency leaders to grow, develop, and promote high performing employees
Required Education and Licensure:
- Bachelor's degree in Business, Human Resources or a related field
- 5+ years of Human Resources experience
- Subject matter and working expertise of state specific worker's compensation, leave of absence, minimum wage, overtime and general employment/labor laws
- Valid Driver's license required; mut meet state regulating agency and Nexus Home Office driving requirements
Nice to Have:
- 2+ years of experience in training, leading and developing employees
- 2+ years of experience with labor relations
- Experience supporting employees and leaders in a non-profit environment
