Department Summary:

Wolverine Wellness advances community and personal well-being through partnerships and advocacy and is guided by five core
actions of health promotion as outlined in the Ottawa Charter: prevention, personal skill development, strengthening community action, creating supportive environments, and policy/system level change management. Wolverine Wellness is the hub for campus well-being and offers programs and resources such as: U-M Collegiate Recovery Program, wellness coaching, Well-being Academy trainings, ALA 240 wellness course, health equity grants, health and well-being workshops and campaigns, PaWWs and Relax therapy dog program, safer sex supplies, sleep kits, and more. The unit helps to socialize the institution-wide multi-dimensional model of well-being and provides backbone leadership for the U-M Well-being Collective.

Position Summary:

This position will engage in innovative health promotion practices that promote and improve the health and well-being of individual students, student groups, and campus communities. This position will work with a multidisciplinary team of colleagues in the department and the broader University.

The successful candidate will be adept at using evidence-based strategies to address public health issues that affect college student well-being at the individual and community level. Strategies can include individual interventions, peer/group engagement, social marketing, community engagement, and policy-based approaches. An additional focus of this position will be coordinating and managing student-facing health and well-being online course requirements, partnering strategically with Student Life units, and providing technology and content assistance with health promotion campaigns and mobile apps. 

60% - Health and Wellness Education, Promotion, and Outreach    

  • Develop, implement, and evaluate a variety of health promotion programs and initiatives
    • Working with a comprehensive health promotion mission, vision, and prevention strategy, with particular focus on college culture and the entire student body (including undergraduates, graduate students, doctoral students, and professional students)
    • Focusing on current and emerging college public health issues including but not limited to: alcohol and other drugs, sexual health, mental health, gambling, etc.
    • Supporting digital platforms and interventions such as Calm app, Stay in the Blue app, Clear30 in connection with campus health promotion work
    • Creating and updating an Education, Promotion, and Outreach calendar/guide to integrate online courses, programming, campaigns, and outreach on a seasonal/annual basis
  • Maintain an active and engaged presence across campus
    • Supporting the development of health promotion campaigns and communication strategies
    • Partnering with ongoing health and wellness teams including orientation, high-risk planning and prevention, communication, JED campus, and mental health promotion
    • Analyzing and sharing key outcome and learning data from the required health and wellness online courses with key campus stakeholders  to inform health and wellness interventions and programming
  • Hire/recruit, train, manage, supervise and evaluate paid graduate and undergraduate student staff, interns, and student volunteers

40% - Health and Wellness Online Course Coordination

  • Act as the day to day operational and content point of contact for the health and wellness online course system
    • Serving as the point person for student-facing courses with vendor (Vector Solutions)
    • Liaising between vendor and campus partners for questions, needs, and course previews
    • Supporting students and vendor with challenges and concerns during course implementation
    • Coordinating meetings between vendor and Student Life campus partners
  • Manage course system communications and campus partner relationships
    • Initiating and coordinating course communication with campus stakeholder and the students required to complete courses Convening campus partner groups that collaborate with all required courses
    • Collaborating with Student Life units to best utilize engagement data and tailor health promotion and engagement  initiatives
  • Manage course system configuration, customizations, and data management
    • Coordinating health and wellness content customizations Managing all course outcome and data  reports and coordinating with the Student Life Research and Health and Wellness Data Analysts for data analysis
  • Coordinate course logistics
    • Monitoring course completions and providing regular status reporting to Student Life and Wolverine Wellness  leadership accurate student lists for assigning appropriate courses  (multiple times per year, multiple programs, working with the Registrar, specific academic programs, Athletics and vendor)
    • Troubleshooting questions and student concerns, triaging emails to appropriate campus partners
  • Bachelor's degree in public health, social work, communications, or related field
  • 2 years of professional work experience in higher education or health promotion and outreach
  • Work experience related to online platform or web content management
  • Master's degree in Public Health, Higher Education, Social Work, Counseling, Psychology or related field
  • Three-five years of experience creating student well-being programming and outreach in a higher education

Working Conditions:

  • Normal work hours will be 8-5 Monday-Friday. Hybrid work is possible. Rare evening and weekend hours required throughout the academic year.

Physical Requirements:

  • The incumbent is required to remain in a stationary position for extended periods of time, occasionally moving items weighing up to twenty-five (25) pounds, etc.
