Hands-on Oracle Database Administrator - Exadata Specialist

Job Description:

We are seeking a highly experienced Hands-on Oracle Database Administrator (DBA) with 15+ years of expertise, specializing in Exadata environments. The ideal candidate will have strong database tuning, recovery, budgeting, and licensing experience, along with hands-on AWS cloud experience. This is a contract-to-hire role requiring a strong team player who can optimize and manage mission-critical databases while ensuring cost-effective operations.

Key Responsibilities:

• Manage, administer, and optimize Oracle databases in Exadata environments.

• Perform advanced database tuning, indexing, and query optimization to improve performance.

• Implement disaster recovery strategies, including backup and recovery planning using RMAN.

• Monitor database health, troubleshoot issues, and ensure high availability and scalability.

• Oversee budgeting and licensing costs to optimize database investments.

• Apply patches, upgrades, and security configurations to maintain compliance.

• Work with AWS cloud environments, including RDS for Oracle, EC2, S3, and database migration services.

• Implement automation and scripting for database management in AWS and on-premise environments.

• Collaborate with application developers, system administrators, and business stakeholders to support database-driven applications.

• Provide technical guidance and mentorship to junior DBAs and IT staff.

Required Skills & Qualifications:

• 15+ years of hands-on Oracle DBA experience with strong expertise in Oracle Exadata.

• Proficiency in database performance tuning, SQL optimization, and indexing strategies.

• In-depth knowledge of backup, recovery, and disaster recovery planning (RMAN, Data Guard, Flashback).

• Experience with Oracle RAC, ASM, and GoldenGate for replication and high availability.

• Strong understanding of Oracle licensing models and ability to manage budgeting for database costs.

• Hands-on experience with AWS cloud services, including RDS for Oracle, EC2, S3, and DMS.

• Experience in migrating on-prem Oracle databases to AWS and implementing hybrid database architectures.

• Scripting skills in Shell, Python, or PL/SQL for automation.

• Excellent problem-solving skills, teamwork, and ability to work in a fast-paced environment.

• Must be a local candidate based in New Jersey and available for on-site work in Newark, NJ (3 days per week).

Preferred Certifications:

• Oracle Certified Master (OCM) Oracle Database

• Oracle Certified Professional (OCP) Exadata

• AWS Certified Database Specialty

• AWS Certified Solutions Architect Associate

Contract-to-Hire Details:

• Initial contract period with the intent to convert to a full-time role based on performance.

• Hybrid work setup: 3 days on-site in Newark, NJ, and 2 days remote.
