About The Position We are looking for someone with excitement and dedication in serving our guests at the Longfellow Hotel. As key member of our Food & Beverage Team, you will be working closely with the bartender in providing exceptional customer service to our luxury, yet cozy lobby bar setting. The Ideal candidate will excel in creating memorable experiences by providing personalized service and anticipating our guests' needs throughout their stay. Satisfying our guests depends on the united efforts of many, we are most effective when we work together cooperatively, respecting each other’s contribution and importance. What We Expect Job duties include but are not limited to:

  • Describe the selection of food and beverage menu items to guests by offering interesting and vivid descriptions of the each item’s origin, taste, and preparation methods; communicate guest orders, including any special needs or requests to the kitchen using the hotel’s point-of-sales system; coordinate food timings; check completed kitchen orders with the guest’s original order; transport items to the guest table in a timely manner to ensure proper food quality
  • Anticipate guest needs, ascertain satisfaction, and offer suggestions, and respond urgently and appropriately to guest concerns and requests
  • Service and take orders from guests seated at the bar area offering interesting, and vivid descriptions of the each item’s, origin, taste, and preparation methods; maintain a working knowledge of liquors, wines, beers, ports, specialty drinks and food menus
  • Properly and accurately close guest checks; process cash and credit card payments; properly settle voided checks or complimentary items
  • Perform other tasks or projects as assigned by management
  • Assists with responsibilities and duties in the absence of or due to heavy volume in areas of Food & Beverage when needed
  • Maintain a working knowledge of Five of Clubs’, Twinflower’s and In-Room Dining’s menu
  • Comply with Longfellow and SLH work place rules and standards of conduct
  • Work harmoniously and professionally with co-workers and supervisors
  • Assist with IRD orders in a timely manner when needed
Who You Are Ideal candidates will have:
  • High school education or equivalent experiences
  • Two years previous experience in a luxury Food and Beverage outlet preferred
  • Excellent reading, writing and oral proficiency in the English language
  • The ability to carry and balance a tray with multiple items
  • Must be able to obtain any required food handing or alcohol serving certifications required by local or state agencies. (BABLO)
  • Knowledge of Portland and surrounding areas, highly desirable, however not required
  • Must be able to be on feet for entire shift and communicate with guests appropriately and effectively
  • Above and beyond attitude is required as well as a flexible schedule with ability to work weekends/holidays and evenings
  • Strong written and oral presentation skills
  • Works in a careful and meticulous nature
  • The ability to have strong communication skills between customers and co-workers
  • Ability to multi-task in a high volume and demanding environment
  • Strong interpersonal and team player skills
  • Ability to accurately process cash, room charges and credit card transactions
  • Strong problem solving skills, ability to handle difficult situations and guests
