FACULTY VACANCY ANNOUNCEMENT

Located on the 68th Street campus on the upper east side of Manhattan near many major cultural institutions, Hunter College is part of the City University of New York, a nationally recognized metropolitan university system. As part of a Palestine Studies cluster hire, the School of Arts and Sciences at Hunter College (CUNY) invites applications for a tenure track faculty position in one of the humanities fields. The successful applicant would join one or more of the following departments: Art and Art History, Classics/Arabic, English, Film and Media Studies, and/or Music. This position is one of two hires in Palestine studies.

We seek applicants with a strong research or creative profile and a commitment to teaching all aspects of Palestinian culture including but not limited to: Jerusalem studies, Ottoman Palestine, colonialism, British Mandate, diaspora, displacement, apartheid, art, literature, language, architecture, ethnomusicology, theater, film and media, museums and urbanism as well as contemporary culture. We are open to diverse theoretical and methodological approaches. We seek candidates interested in interdisciplinary work, and who exhibit commitment to the mission of Hunter College, a diverse and dynamic public and majority-minority undergraduate serving institution.

The duties of the incoming faculty will be research, teaching, and service to the department(s) and college. The incoming colleague would be ready to develop and teach intellectually and/or creatively challenging courses and engage in collaboration with others across the college. We welcome innovative pedagogy that sparks our students? imaginations and understanding of their social worlds.

QUALIFICATIONS

Applicants must hold a PhD in one of the aforementioned fields or one closely related, provide evidence of a publication record and of excellent teaching and mentorship, particularly of undergraduates. Ideal candidates will also have a record of public engagement and community action.

COMPENSATION

Salary commensurate with academic accomplishments and experience. $82,928 - $99,532 (Assistant); or $100,329 - $117,805 (Associate); or $119,995 - $141,858 (Full Professor)
