The Mission Neighborhood Health Center (MNHC) is a non-profit, multi-site community health organization offering comprehensive health services in the Mission and Excelsior Districts of San Francisco.  The center offers primary health care services, adult medicine, pediatrics, family planning, OB/GYN, HIV and homeless services.

We are currently looking for qualified candidates for our Controller  role. This position reports to the Chief Financial Officer  and is a Regular, Full Time, Exempt role with a  salary range of $156,200 to $171,800 with full benefits . .

Primary Objective:
Under the supervision of the Chief Financial Officer, the Controller is responsible for providing financial leadership and expertise for the day-to-day accounting functions of the organization.  The Controller will ensure compliance with GAAP standards, a high level of integrity, timeliness of financial reporting, and internal controls.  Perform and ensure a timely month and year end close processes.  Will ensure the organization complies with all tax reporting, preparation of grant budgets and invoices, preparation of payroll, accounts payable disbursements, procurement and preparation of all worksheets for annual audit and other reporting needs of the organization. Supervision of five or more direct reports; this position is required to be able to perform duties of each position, as a backup and to assist in simplifying processes and increase efficiencies.

1. Payroll, Grant management, Accounts Payable, and purchasing functions of the organization.  Will ensure that all bills, expense reports, timesheets and any other payments and respective supporting documents are processed in a timely and accurate manner. Accounts Receivable –ensures that receipts are posted accurately and daily. Grant management – prepares budgets, receivables and revenue reporting, compliance with regulations and providing guidance to Program Directors regarding their grants. Responsible for taking ownership pf all term-end close activities.
2. Coaches and educates staff on policies and procedures of the organization.
3. Evaluates direct reports within designated time frames, providing on-going feedback, coaching, and supervision.

Primary Functions - 70%

1. Responsible for closing the books each month and at year end, ensures the proper recognition and recording of all financial transactions by the set timelines.
2. Responsible for the preparation of monthly reconciliations on all balance sheet accounts and other accounts each month.
3. Prepares the monthly financial reports for board committees and other special reports as needed.
4. Prepares and maintains the 3 rd party and patient pay revenue reconciliation on a monthly basis.
5. Supervises and updates the fixed assets system and coordinates and oversees the annual physical inventory process.
6. Prepares and submits all federal, state, and local tax returns ensuring that MNHC is compliant with applicable filing requirement policies and procedures.
7. Ensures all schedule and work papers are prepared and ready for the annual financial and 401K audits.
8. Acts as the primary specialist with regards to reporting functionality, creating reports, updates and maintenance of the Abila MIP accounting software.
9. Leads the financial audits and coordinates with the external auditors.
10. Prepare and file Tax documents and ensure that the organization is compliant with its Tax reporting requirements.
11. Assist MNHC’s leadership in the annual budgeting and planning process; administer and review all financial plans and compare to actual results with a view to identify, explain, and correct variances as appropriate.
12. Other financial or operational related activities as deemed necessary from time to time as assigned by the CFO.

Qualifications:

1. Bachelor ‘s degree in Accounting or Finance preferred, CPA required.
2. Required over 8+ years of overall accounting experience with 3+ years of experience as a Controller and manager in the finance department of a nonprofit, preferably with healthcare experience.
3. Strong computer and analytical skills particularly in the use of accounting and financial software packages, requires strong experience with Abila MIP or Sage 100 fund accounting software. Advanced working knowledge of Microsoft Office, especially Excel, V look-up, and Macros.
4. Ability to maintain the highest level of confidentiality when dealing with sensitive financial information.
5. A strong understanding of GAAP, A133, internal control processes and hands on experience overseeing and managing a multitude of grants from varying funding sources.
6. As a condition of employment, all candidates are required to provide documentation of current immunizations, including COVID-19 and TB test results valid within the last two (2) years must be submitted before the start date.
