Job Description

Contract to Perm Content Strategist + Copywriter

Media Cause is an award-winning, mission-driven marketing and creative agency that helps nonprofits grow and accelerate their impact. We take a people-first approach to developing powerful creative, scalable growth strategies, and targeted communications that connect with individuals across their entire supporter journey: from awareness and recruitment to fundraising and advocacy, and every touchpoint in between.

As of 2025, Media Cause consists of 50+ full-time employees along with a network of talented consultants. We have offices in Washington DC, Atlanta, and San Francisco, as well as many team members who work remotely on a permanent basis. Our agency has grown in size every year since our founding, landing on the Inc. 5000 list for the fastest-growing private companies in America three times. We have built a strong business, although impact will always be our North Star. In addition to winning a number of creative and effectiveness awards for our client work, Media Cause was also honored by Inc. Magazine with a Best In Business Gold Award for our positive impact on our community, our industry, and society as a whole.

Media Cause is looking for a contract-to-hire Copywriter + Content Strategist to help accelerate the growth and impact of organizations doing good in the world by helping our agency grow our creative services and build stronger client relationships through top-notch writing and strategy.

This role will start as a contract role and move to a full-time hire. The hourly rate will be commensurate with experience. Media Cause is committed to hiring individuals who are traditionally underrepresented in the field of marketing. We strongly encourage all qualified people to apply.

Who you are:

The ideal candidate has 3 - 5 years of digital marketing experience across nonprofits and digital marketing industries. Prior agency experience is preferred, but not required.

We're looking for people with a passion for storytelling, driving meaningful results for nonprofits, a hunger to continue learning in the ever-changing digital world, the ability to problem-solve to overcome any challenge, a passion for helping teammates succeed, and a strong desire to change the world.

As a Copywriter + Content Strategist, your primary responsibilities will include content strategy and information architecture for client websites, drafting copy for websites, landing pages, social, blogs, ads, videos, and more. If it has words, you'll help write them.

You should be highly organized and love getting the details right. This role may experience a high volume of accounts at times, so the ability to manage multiple projects at once and prioritize your workload is a must. Nonprofit experience is a bonus, but not required, because we're also here to show you the ropes.

The Copywriter + Content Strategist will report to the Associate Director of Copy and Content, and work closely with the Client Services team.

Responsibilities include:

  • Work with account strategists, art directors, designers, and developers to create compelling content for our clients that inspires audiences to get involved
  • Evaluate existing website content and make recommendations for streamlining, editing, sourcing, or creating new content to achieve our clients' communications goals, while also creating a user-friendly experience for the reader
  • Write long and short form copy for a variety of channels, personas, and market segments; quickly understand each client's unique positioning and objectives, and be able to switch between voices and formats easily
  • Contribute ideas to brainstorming and concepting sessions for brand campaigns and activations
  • Write brand guidelines, marketing documents, and other materials for clients and internal Media Cause initiatives; provide proofreading and editing support as needed
  • Keep an ear and an eye on trends, best practices, and opportunities to bring new ideas to the team and our clients, while constantly adding new skills to your own arsenal

Skills and Experience Preferred include:

  • 3 - 5 years experience in copywriting and content strategy in a marketing, consulting, or advertising agency environment (nonprofit experience is a plus, but not required)
  • A love of copy and content, understanding how it fits into the bigger picture of an organization's mission
  • A solid toolkit of best practices, editing, proofreading, and time management
  • Ability to juggle multiple accounts with varying deadlines, assignments, and objectives
  • The ability to present creative work to clients, take part in stakeholder interviews, conduct third-party research, and above all else, tell a rich, compelling story
  • Proactively reach for more, communicate project status, and work on professional development
  • A knack for turning research and data into words that make an impact
  • Time management and client relationship skills are a must
  • A willingness to get crafty and understand that regardless of budget (nonprofits don't always have a lot), it's our job to figure out how to do great work.

Company Perks + Culture for Full-Time Hires:

  • Family-first work environment with flexible work-from-home options to accommodate personal obligations
  • Robust health, dental, and vision benefit plans for you and yours
  • 401k + retirement planning
  • Agency-wide profit sharing
  • Unlimited personal time off (with an enforced 3-week minimum every year)
  • 2x/year mental health Fridays to reset and recharge
  • Flexible remote work: we're open to structuring your week in whatever way makes sense, whether it's all at home, all at the office, or some combination of the two
  • $200/month health + wellness stipend to strengthen your body and/or mind
  • $1,000/year individual professional development stipend to cover any education/training that you want to pursue to grow in your role (or as a human!)
  • Agency commitment to building and supporting a diverse, equitable, and inclusive agency ( (and we hold ourselves accountable)
  • Transparent + equitable career growth opportunities: clear path for advancement and bi-annual opportunities for anyone to raise their hand for promotion
  • The ability to work with genuinely fantastic humans who care deeply about the work we do and each other
  • Yearly donations made to employees' nonprofit of choice to celebrate their Media Cause work anniversaries
  • A culture of volunteering and giving back to the communities we work in, and to the issues we care about, around the world (quarterly office volunteer days will return after COVID)
