Job Summary
The Associate Director, Social Media will work to advance GoodPower’s mission and grow the impact of its programs via a strong, engaging social media presence (owned, earned, and paid) across many channels. The primary responsibilities include contributing to and executing a dynamic social media strategy via content production in our key states, nationally, and globally. The ideal candidate should have a general knowledge and interest in accelerating decarbonized economies, the climate movement, geopolitics, tackling disinformation, and the energy transition. This individual will regularly distill and articulate complex, intersecting issues related to energy, policy, and other social justice causes, and routinely incorporate new techniques and tactics for engaging our audiences via many social media platforms simultaneously, including but not limited to: Instagram, TikTok, YouTube, X, Snapchat, Facebook, and others as they emerge.
In this position, the Associate Director, Social Media will work to strengthen GoodPower’s role and impact in the broader renewables movement, advocating for an end to the era of fossil fuels, demanding a swift and equitable transition to renewable energy, and fighting to increase diverse participation in our democracy.
Essential Functions
- Manage all aspects of social media content production, including digital graphic design and microvideo production:
- Oversee the execution of marketing strategy measured by significant growth of video views, subscribers, and engagement.
- Lead the ideation of new content and designs, utilizing relevant pop culture and current events to optimize results of both organic and paid campaigns.
- Responsible for executing strategy based on data to measure performance and effectiveness.
- Consistently produce a range of content for all platforms in varying formats, including flat graphics, logos, blogs, op-eds, microvideos, and more as needed.
- Support content coordination and scheduling as needed.
- Contribute to social resource and assets management.
- Optimize content for engagement, conversion, and other metrics.
- Maintain voice and tone while designing and copywriting across multiple platforms and adapting language accordingly.
- Support team to advance communications and marketing goals across the organization.
- Stay up to date on trends, audience sentiment, and platform innovations, and translate those learnings into actionable insights
- Serve as an external personality on social media channels:
- Appear regularly in visual content, including videos, microvideos, and still graphics
- Participate in producing and hosting live events
Key Responsibilities
- Content Development and Production: Ideate, design, and produce engaging content for platforms including Instagram, TikTok, YouTube, X, Snapchat, Facebook, the GoodPower blog, and more that supports a strong, engaging online and social media presence for GoodPower.
- Stay updated: Keep on top of policies, events, campaigns, social media sentiment, and trends across all social platforms.
Qualifications
Minimum Qualifications
An ideal candidate will possess most of the following:
- 7-10 years of work experience in social media content creation, coordination, or a similar field (extra points if you bring best practices from the for-profit world)
- Self-starter with strong outside-the-box thinking, organizational skills, and creativity
- Experience with social, creator, social listening, community management, and publishing tools and best practices, especially Instagram, TikTok, YouTube, X, Snapchat, and Facebook
- Experience with graphic design, design fundamentals, Canva, and Adobe Suite, including Photoshop, Indesign, and Illustrator
- Experience with thumb-stopping video production tailored to grab attention in a hyper-saturated social media landscape, including basic video editing skills
- Strong interpersonal skills and ability to cultivate and manage internal and external relationships
- Excellent oral and written communication skills in English, copywriting, and editing experience preferred
- Comfortable working remotely and as part of a small team
- Experience working with diverse communities
- Existing expertise or willingness to master trends in dis/misinformation

Position Details
- Annual salary range: $91,000-96,000, commensurate with experience
- Generous benefits include: Medical, Dental, Vision, 403b retirement savings plan, Vacation, Sabbatical, Paid Parental Leave, 2 Floating Holidays, 2 Community Service Floating Holidays, sick time, two weeks of full-staff time off (July 4 week and Christmas-New Years week) and 13 observed holidays
